When they developed the 350 in 1967 with its 3.48 inch stroke they increased the size of both the main and rod journals to regain some of the overlap that was lost as the rod journals were moved out on the crank. I tried to run some TRW's down last year and found there wasn't any standard bore pistons avalable but .020, .040 were . There is a bood build up in Nov. Hot Rod pg. 88. You end up with the displacement of a smaller engine with the rev limits of a larger motor. A better combination is the 283 crank in a 327 block. Webb25 apr. 2015 · A 283 .60 over is a 292 cubic inch. But yes if you use a stock bore 327 with 283 crank you get a 301, but you have to change the pistons so the pin height is right. IMHO find a steel 350 3.48" crank and use the 6" rods and I think you'll be much happier. Heck, that combo gives a great 1.72 rod ratio so the reduced detonation theory holds true here as well.
